Help build and maintain superconducting cavities and accelerator systems for ATLAS, a U.S. DOE National User Facility descended from the world's first superconducting heavy-ion linac.

The Accelerator Development Group in Argonne’s Physics Division is a recognized world leader in superconducting accelerator technology for ions and other applications. Five decades ago, the group developed ATLAS, the world’s first superconducting linear accelerator for heavy ions. Today, ATLAS serves as a U.S. Department of Energy National User Facility supporting leading research in nuclear structure and nuclear astrophysics using stable and radioactive ion beams.

We are seeking a highly motivated technical professional to join our collaborative team and contribute to the development of advanced accelerator systems for ATLAS and other accelerator projects. This is an exciting opportunity to work hands-on with innovative technologies, solve complex technical challenges, and support a world-class scientific user facility.

In this role, you will:

  • Support the concept development, engineering, design, fabrication, assembly, and testing of superconducting cavities and related subsystems for ATLAS and other accelerator projects
  • Contribute to the development, fabrication, maintenance, and improvement of laboratory equipment and technical subsystems
  • Collaborate with Accelerator Development Group and ATLAS staff to operate, maintain, and enhance the ATLAS accelerator facility
  • Help deliver reliable, high-quality accelerator systems in support of current and future projects
  • Use computer-based analytical, modeling, and design tools to advance accelerator development activities
