Drive transient photoelectron spectroscopy development and ultrafast studies of MXene electronic dynamics at Argonne's Center for Nanoscale Materials.

The Center for Nanoscale Materials (CNM) at Argonne National Laboratory invites applications for a research-focused Postdoctoral Appointee within its Dynamics theme area. The successful candidate will conduct fundamental and applied research on the ultrafast electronic, structural, and nonequilibrium dynamics of MXene materials.

The appointee will use and help advance state-of-the-art ultrafast spectroscopy and microscopy methods to investigate the fundamental physics and electronic structure of MXenes. Relevant techniques may include transient photoelectron spectroscopy, transient absorption spectroscopy, ultrafast emission measurements, ultrafast electron microscopy, and ultrafast cathodoluminescence.

Working closely with Argonne scientific staff and collaborators, the postdoctoral researcher will contribute to the development and expansion of transient photoelectron spectroscopy and related ultrafast measurement capabilities. The position offers opportunities to develop novel instrumentation, pursue high-impact scientific questions, and work in a collaborative, interdisciplinary national laboratory environment.

Position Requirements

  • Recent or soon-to-be-completed PhD (within the last 0-5 years) in experimental physics, chemistry, engineering, materials science, or equivalent
  • Experience in ultrafast measurement science, such as ultrafast spectroscopy, nonlinear optics, time-resolved X-ray, electron, or optical microscopy
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative research environment
  • Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with scientific data analysis, scripting, and instrumentation control
  • Experience working at or with scientific user facilities
  • Experience in instrument development, particularly for ultrafast measurement platforms and tools
