Airworthiness Engineer, Omen
Anduril Industries · Costa Mesa, CA · Posted 2 days ago
Own airworthiness certification for Omen, a runway-independent tail-sitter UAS with a 50-system production contract, shaping plans that take new designs to flight within months.
Anduril is seeking a Senior Airworthiness Engineer to join the Omen team at our Costa Mesa HQ. Omen is Anduril’s hover-to-cruise autonomous air vehicle (AAV) that packs the endurance, payload, and mission flexibility of much larger airplanes into a novel runway-independent Group 3 platform. Omen can operate from ship decks, beaches, or remote island clearings, providing true runway independence and freedom of maneuver across defense and civilian domains. Omen is the first tail-sitter aircraft with a mass-production contract, with an order of 50 systems representing a decisive investment that anchors production and accelerates the development of future systems.
You will work on the Airworthiness aspects of new aircraft development effort in a lean, high-ownership culture where you directly shape the product and operate at a velocity to fly new designs within months, not years.
- You will work as an Airworthiness Engineer to develop and author Airworthiness certification and conformance plans for Omen developmental and production aircraft, to fly both CONUS and OCONUS.
- Bring a pragmatic and right-sized approach to Airworthiness (and Systems Safety) to enable Omen Capability realization at the speed of relevance.
- Engage with customers, end-users and local regulatory authorities to identify and negotiate appropriate Airworthiness frameworks and recognized standards to develop the overall Airworthiness strategy as a foundation for design efforts.
- Develop Airworthiness plans and documentation in support of regional regulatory processes and submissions.
- Support System Design Reviews (SDR) and engineering governance structures such as Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR), Critical Design Reviews (CDR), Test Readiness Reviews (TRR), Safety Review Boards (SRB) representing and Airworthiness.
- Ensure the logical and systematic realization of customer airworthiness certification objectives, to include the tailoring of traditional Airworthiness processes, and continuously evaluate and update Airworthiness plans throughout the product lifecycle.
- You will develop, author and maintain all Airworthiness activities in a digital environment which is interconnected with system requirements, program schedules, flight test point matrix, and also risk assessments, providing input to the flight test program execution schedule.
- Faced with technical and execution challenges, you will be expected to develop creative solutions to unique problems. You will be biased for action — you are empowered to engage your team to solve and fix any problem you encounter.
