Japan Accounting, Closing & Finance Transformation

The Opportunity This is more than a traditional general ledger role. You will take ownership of key Japan accounting and closing activities, strengthen accounting quality, and help shape a modern and scalable Finance organization. Working closely with the Accounting Manager and cross-functional partners, you will combine hands-on accounting expertise with process improvement, automation, and team development. What You Will Own · Closing leadership: Lead assigned activities for monthly, quarterly, and annual close, ensuring accurate, complete, and timely accounting. · General ledger and balance sheet ownership: Own key GL and balance sheet areas, including trial balance analysis, account reconciliations, and resolution of unusual or complex transactions. · US GAAP and Japan GAAP accounting: Manage accounting and required adjustments under US GAAP and Japan GAAP, supporting reliable statutory and management reporting. · Treasury and cash visibility: Own assigned treasury and banking activities, including cash flow forecast preparation and related coordination. · Controls and audit readiness: Support SOX compliance and internal and external audits through strong documentation, clear explanations, and sustainable controls. · Shared service partnership: Coordinate and oversee assigned monthly accounting activities performed by the India shared service team, with a focus on quality, accountability, and continuous improvement. · Finance transformation: Identify and drive opportunities for standardization, process simplification, AI, and automation, including improvements enabled by SAP S/4HANA. · Team capability building: Provide practical coaching to junior accountants, helping them understand the accounting principles and business meaning behind daily transactions, not only the processing steps. What Success Looks Like · You are recognized as a trusted owner of key accounting areas, not only as a reviewer. · Closing and balance sheet processes become more accurate, efficient, and sustainable. · Issues are addressed through root-cause analysis and process improvement, rather than repeated manual correction. · Junior accountants strengthen their technical judgment and become more confident in explaining the rationale behind transactions. · The Accounting Manager gains greater capacity to focus on management, strategic priorities, and broader Finance leadership. What You Bring · 7+ years of progressive Finance and Accounting experience, with strong hands-on general ledger and closing expertise. · Solid knowledge of US GAAP and Japan GAAP, including experience with GAAP adjustments. · Experience with SAP; SAP S/4HANA experience is highly desirable. · Business-level English, with the ability to collaborate in a global and cross-functional environment. · CPA, US CPA, or Nissho Bookkeeping Level 2 or above is preferred. · A proactive, curious, and improvement-oriented mindset, with the ability to learn, challenge constructively, and work as a team player. · Interest in coaching others and taking broader ownership and leadership responsibility over time.
